Monitor advice

I’m looking to upgrade my very old monitor.  I’ve a gtx 1070 and have quickly fallen into the 1080p at 144hz vs. 1440p at 60hz internet hole.  Anybody with 1070 have any advice on this?  I don’t play many FPS so I’m inclined to go with resolution over the faster refresh rate.  I’m also kinda tempted to say the hell with it and get a 1440p, 144hz monitor with the expectation of replacing the GPU long before I’ll replace the monitor, and just bumping down the settings and refresh rates to get the 1070 to run it.  Long story short, I don’t know what I’m doing and am wondering if anybody is similar situation has advice?

It’s a big investment, but basically you get what you pay for, and getting something better now means you won’t have to upgrade for longer. If you have to pick between the two I’d say go for refresh over resolution IF you’re playing a lot of games, Overwatch being my main reason - for moment-to-moment decision-making.

Resolution, meanwhile, isn’t really that big of a deal if you ask me, unless you’ve got a monitor above a certain size. That said, 60FPS is fine enough, and 1440p is nice. The one thing I wouldn’t bother with is 4K. It’s really not worth the money except on a big screen TV or something if you ask me.
